What’s PCMs(Phase Change Materials)?

Phase change materials are kind of material which can absorb or release heat when the shape of the material changes, but the temperature of the material itself does not change.

Because of its huge latent heat of phase change, it has the function of temperature control, energy storage and thermal protection.

Water is the most common phase change material. When the temperature is below 0 ° C, water changes from liquid to solid (Freeze). When the temperature is higher than 0 ° C, water changes from solid to liquid (melt). In the process of freezing, water absorbs a lot of cold energy. In the process of melting, water absorbs a lot of heat energy. The greater the amount of water, the longer the freezing /melting process takes. In these two processes, the energy stored or released is called latent heat. The higher the latent heat is, temperature control performance stronger.

Phase change materials(PCMs) can be divided into organic and inorganic phase change materials.

Among them, the most important organic phase change material is the paraffin wax, which is recognized as the ideal phase change material in the world.

It has been widely used in cold chain logistics, building insulation, battery system temperature control and other fields.
